Start With Social Networks
People are drawn to social circles like moths are drawn to candlelight. Why? Because it’s hard to keep clear of them! It’s virtually very ambitious to keep yourself from being sucked into subscribing for a dedicated forum, perhaps connecting with industry pioneers through LinkedIn or clicking the Like button on a Facebook page. Because it’s pretty much impossible NOT to be part of any social circle, you can use social circles to your advantage when you’re tracking someone down.
The following social networking webpages should help kick off your hunt:-
. Facebook
. MySpace
. Friendster
. Multiply
. Hi5
Yoname, Wink and Spokeo are three websites that allow you to hunt through social networks without having to visit each of the 10 mentioned above. However, in most cases, only a limited number of results are displayed.
Online Public Records
You can go through online public records to conduct quick but substantial background checks on someone. With only a person’s name and birth date, you can find out virtually everything about him, from criminal histories to hospital records. Here are four websites that offer online public records:
. ZabaSearch
. Google
. CriminalSearches
. USA
Look Through Death Records
If you’re willing to consider the possibility that the person you are looking for may already be deceased, you can try going through online death records and cemetery listings.
Death Indexes contain death records listed by state and city. You’ll find death certificate indexes, obituaries, burial records and death notices.
Many cemeteries have webpages that you can go through to look for graves. Find A Grave and Cemetery Records Online are good places to start.
Go Job Hunting
If you happen to know where the person you are looking for works, you can obtain some of his contact information by tracking down the specific company he works for or the industry he is part of. Jobster.com contains listings of job positions both by name and by industry. If the person you are looking for is employed or is hunting for a job, chances are you’ll find him on that website.
ZoomInfo is another website worth looking into. It crawls through profiles and indexes company affiliations.
Basic Google Search and Google CSE
Most social networking websites, blogs and forums are indexed through search engines and Google is too big to ignore.
If you happen to know the person’s first and last name, you can look for any web pages that mention that name through Google. All you have to do is enter the first and last name enclosed in quotes on the Google search field. For instance, if you’re looking for someone named Susan Richards, just enter “Susan Richards” (with quotes) into Google.
To help speed things up for you, you can combine any of the ways mentioned above through the use of Google Custom Search Engines. First, try to list down the webpages you wish to start your hunt with. Then visit Google and click the blue “Create A Custom Search Engine” button. Give your search engine a name and then separately enter the webpages you’ve listed on the Define Search section of the page. You can freely add more websites to this later to expand your search. Finish setting up your search engine and you’re good to go. Stalking is pretty serious business and any of the above tips should help you on your hunt.
